About This Style
Bubble letters are the typographic equivalent of a deep breath — rounded, looped, and friendly. Unicode achieves this look primarily through the Enclosed Alphanumerics block, which places each letter inside a circle (ⓐⓑⓒⓓ) or a square (🅐🅑🅒🅓). These are the Unicode characters that most closely match the bubble-letter aesthetic from classroom posters, graffiti tag studies, and Lisa Frank stationery.
The circled set is the bigger crowd-pleaser because the ring around each letter reads immediately as "bubble." The ring thickness varies by device font, but the overall effect is consistent: the text looks lighter, softer, and more approachable than the angular default letters.
The bubble letter style originated in graffiti and hand-lettering — specifically the "softie" or "puffy" letter style popularized in 1980s hip-hop visual culture. Unicode circled letters are a cleaner, digitized version of that tradition.
