About This Style
Cursive text in Unicode comes primarily from the Mathematical Script block (𝒶𝒷𝒸𝒹) and its bold variant (𝓪𝓫𝓬𝓭). Despite the intimidating name, these characters look exactly like flowing handwritten cursive — the kind you learned in elementary school penmanship class, just rendered as individual characters instead of connected strokes.
The regular script set produces a light, elegant cursive that works well for formal invitations and graceful bios. The bold script set (𝓪𝓫𝓬𝓭) adds weight without losing the cursive flow — this is the version that mimics the bold calligraphy of a fountain pen pressing down on the downstrokes.
A common misconception is that script characters connect the way real handwriting does. They do not — each letter is an independent Unicode glyph. The visual flow comes from the letter shapes themselves, not from actual ligatures. For connected handwriting, you would need a dedicated cursive font. For most digital use (bios, captions, signatures), the disconnected-but-elegant look of script Unicode is actually preferable because it stays readable.
