About this generator

What is the Small Caps Generator?

Small caps look like compact capital letters aligned with the text baseline. This page focuses on that shape, rather than raised superscripts or lowered subscripts. All Small Caps converts both uppercase and lowercase input. Preserve Uppercase keeps existing capital letters while converting supported lowercase letters, useful for a name such as Alice or a title with initials.

Unicode small caps versus typographic small caps

Real small caps in a font are designed to match its weight and proportions. Copyable Unicode small caps assemble phonetic and related characters from different blocks. Coverage is approximate: this implementation uses ordinary s and x where suitable small-cap forms are unavailable, and a small-cap-like q. Numbers and punctuation retain their normal form. Accents remain attached to supported base letters.

Use these results for short labels, display text, or a subtle profile accent. They do not reduce the point size of every character or create a font file. For professional typesetting, use a font with native small-cap features. For tiny raised or lowered text, use the separate Small Text Generator.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from Small Text?

Small caps sit on the normal baseline and resemble reduced capitals. Superscript sits above it; subscript sits below it. This page concentrates on baseline small capitals.

Why do s, x, or q look different?

Unicode does not provide a uniform small-cap alphabet for ordinary typography. This tool uses readable approximations and leaves s and x ordinary rather than substituting unrelated symbols.

Can I keep the first letter capitalized?

Use Preserve Uppercase and type the desired capitals yourself. It preserves existing uppercase letters, rather than guessing title casing or changing acronyms.
