Strikethrough Text Generator

Strikethrough makes a word look crossed out while leaving it readable. Use it for a playful correction, a changed plan, or a caption that shows an earlier idea alongside its replacement. This generator attaches Unicode overlay marks to visible characters, so the effect is part of the copied text.

Long, short, and tilde strokes

The long stroke usually creates the clearest crossed-out appearance. The short stroke sits closer to the center of each character, and the tilde overlay produces a wavy alternative. These marks are drawn by the receiving font, so the line may have gaps or appear at different heights. Spaces and line breaks remain unchanged; emoji sequences are kept intact. Letters, digits, and punctuation can receive the effect.

Unicode versus Markdown and document formatting

If an editor offers a strikethrough button, use it for ordinary documents. For Discord messages, ~~text~~ applies native strikethrough; pasting those markers into a plain-text profile does not guarantee formatting. Use this page when you need actual combining-mark text rather than markup.

Crossed-out text is still visible and recoverable. It is not a way to hide private information or redact a document. For important corrections, also state the updated information plainly, since a screen reader may not communicate the visual line.
